From the desk of BorisPing:

“As PMC style and other 12 inch figure style are popluar. When seeing first time, it’s amazing. But when there are so many shows without enough creativity , maybe all of that have bored the audiences. I remind myself that updating original figures and rebuild some classic figure which Hasbro missed is my intention of custom.
When I saw Collectors Club SURVIVALIST: OUTBACK, its choice of parts impressed me a lot. But I dont like they used Snow Job’s head repaint. So I decide make my own one with unused parts. I also hope they wouldn’t mind my borrowing their concept and making another fake club collectors figure.

A whole lot of love for the Beastie Boys music video  SABOTAGE

“The song’s music video directed by Spike Jonze and played extensively on  MTV is an homage and parody of 1970s crime drama television series.  The song’s music video directed by Spike Jonze and played extensively on  MTV is an homage and parody of 1970s crime drama television series.  The video is presented as the opening credits of a fictional 1970s-style  police show called Sabotage, with the band members appearing as the  show characters. Each band member is introduced as a fictional actor and  the names of the characters are also given. Cochese was the most  cheesy guy in the video clip, so I decided to turn him into a custom.”

International Spotlight: Rubiplas (Cobra Mortal)

Spotlight  Comments Off on International Spotlight: Rubiplas (Cobra Mortal)
Mar 142014

From the desk of Cobra Mortal:

“After a short hiatus I’m back with another edition of “International Spotlight with Mortal”. This time we will be covering Rubiplas, a short lived, but far from forgotten company in Venezuela. Because of the short run, information on the company, figures, vehicles, and so on is really hard to come by. However, I felt it was one I had to cover. With that said, here’s what I was able to put together for you guys.

The Venezuelan government forbade importation from 1983 to 1992 so the Rubiplas Company only made figures from 1990 to early 1992. Using molds and production sheets acquired from the Plastirama Company, Rubiplas produced series 1 and 2. Now this is where things get foggy. It hasn’t been confirmed that Rubiplas made Scarlett, Glenda, or Grunt because no examples of the figures or cards have been found. I personally would think that they got all the molds to make these figures but at this point it is still unknown. Rubiplas also got molds and production sheets from Auriken and later from Hasbro to produce series 8 and 9. After the market was opened back up to imports Rubiplas closed the factories because it was cheaper to import the figures and later became Faventoys.

Rubiplas figures are some of the hardest figures, if not the hardest to find. Due to the fact that the Rubiplas production run was so short the figures and vehicles command a very high price tag, much higer than Plastirama. Other than the price difference, series 1 and 2 of Rubiplas are very similar to Plastirama but can be disguised by color, paint apps, and accessories. Probably the most noticeable differences figure-wise in series 1 are that Flash and Rock N Roll are much darker that their Argen counterparts, the color is closer to Estrela than Plastirama. As far as accessories go the weapons for both are solid black (other than Zap), but the Rubiplas weapons are much more ridged and not easily bent. Most of the series 1 and 2 Rubiplas helmets are Blowtorch helmets and only Short Fuze and Breaker had the standard ones.”

[CUSTOMS] Dark Knight Returns – Batman (by Dravenheart)

From the desk of Dravenheart:

“This is a variation of Batman I’ve wanted to do for a while, but I always hated that he was pretty much the same size as the Hulk. The story was good, but the look just didn’t make any sense to me. However, in Batman: Arkham City, one of the alternate skins is Dark Knight Returns, and they really slimmed him up. He’s still big, but not huge. I liked how it looked, so I jumped on that variation. The only problem I hit was finding a cape and head appropriately sized, but that came together thanks to Young Justice Batman.

Champion worked great since his belt could be repainted directly into Batman’s utility belt. I cut the gauntlet blades off of a 90s Animated Batman, glued them to the body, then sculpted around them. A full repaint from there, and that pretty much finished him off. I did have a different head option, but I completely forgot to paint it up, so instead of giving it more time, I just went ahead and popped the head from Young Justice Batman on him, and figure I’ll use the other head if I remake him with the yellow emblem.”

3DJOES

From our friends at 3DJoes.com

The Cobra Missile Command Headquarters has arrived!

“The 1982 Cobra Missile Command Headquarters is the only G.I. Joe playset ever made out of cardboard. It is also the only playset or vehicle to feature product photography rather than illustration on the front of the box. The MCHQ was only sold at Sears and is quite rare. Due to the materials it is extremely fragile, and finding one in decent condition can be quite a task. This set is one of the “holy grails” of 1980s Joe collecting.”

The 1987 Motorized Action Packs have arrived!

http://www.3djoes.com/1987-overview.html

“There were eight Motorized Action Packs released in 1987, featuring windup motors and an on/off switches. I had several of these as a kid and I remember really enjoying them. From the Earth Borer’s spinning chrome tip, to the Helicopter’s rotating blades, to the Pom-Pom’s recoiling barrels, they added so much fun to play time. Check them all out today over on the 1987 Vehicle overview!”

3DJoes is headed to Atlanta!

“I’ll have a table in the dealer overflow room and I’ll come stocked with 3DJoes posters, carded ARAH figures and some modern exclusives. Come by, say hello, buy a poster and wish me happy birthday! (I’m turning 35 on Sunday the 16th)”

“My buddy Matt at Vintage3DJoes has been BUSY, adding over 40 new pages of adventure team goodness!”

Seven new 1987 vehicles have arrived!

http://www.3djoes.com/1987-overview.html

The G.I. Joe Persuader, Road Toad, and S.L.A.M., the Dreadnok Cycle, and the Cobra Buzz Boar, Jet Pack and Sea Ray have all arrived on the 1987 Vehicle Overview page. Also, the rest of the 1987 vehicle pages are up, with box art and blueprints for almost all of them. As you know (or don’t!), today begins year three, as we celebrate the humble 2 year anniversary of og13. For those of you still pronouncing it as o-g-thirteen, it is actually o-g-one-three!

Two years ago, Flint, myself, and a band of friends decided to take our combined 0% knowledge of building a web-site, and create a place where we could hang out and talk with friends. Toys were on the radar, but more than anything else, we just wanted a place to hang out, laugh, share stories, and support one another.

Somewhere along the way, we acquired a bunch more friends, raised money for some great charities, and gave away over 100 prizes. Whether BoBers, Joes, Cobras, PIFers, O-Holes, or what-not, you are all brothers (and sisters).

It has been a great two years, and we look forward to many, many more with you.

If you love the new art, please let Lantern know, as he is truly the artistic vision behind our little slice of the Internet.

33501 51 Carl “Doc” Greer
33501 43 Night Creeper
33501 04 Crimson Guard Tomax
33501 86 Low Light

The numbers in bold are the unique numbers to look for on the blind bags. This information will also be put in my Kre-O SuperPage as well. Interesting to note that the “Snow Serpent” is now the “Polar Assault Eel”. Makes sense, because the classic file cards mentioned that Snow Serpents were arctic trained Eels, but I can only imagine it was a trademark thing.”

From the desk of ucsf:

“O-Ring Archives

American DefenseRemco’s chameleon brand:

It wasn’t just Lanard – watching and slowly responding to the glorious marching of the G.I. Joe brand in the mid 80’s – that had the idea of coming up with a similar figure line to get a little piece of the whole market. Remco at this time was a company with no less than 40 years of experience in the toy business. Ike Heller and Saul Robbins, two cousins founded it with a strict indication in the name. Remco was created from the words remote control, that has been a great toy format over the decades and the fathers of this establishment gained their reputation via wired toy cars. Despite some success, in the early 70’s the company almost gone smash. If it hadn’t been found by Azrak-Hamway International, Inc. the whole business would have been only part of the history books by the eighties. A new era begun and this new investment created some of the most memorable toys like Universal Monsters and the remote control version of the classic Batmobile.

After the first few years when Joes were around, Remco decided to step in with a military line, which featured not just figures, but accessories, vehicles and playsets. The piquancy about the wider release is that it was an established custom to offer toys through only one store. At the time it was K-mart which they settled with and a small advertising campaign started. The main appeal was it’s price point and nothing – even quality or availability – beats cheapness if it’s about the size of a parents wallet. A little more insight to K-Mart: it wasn’t only the vendor of this brand, it actually bought it. And if it’s not muddled enough, in 1985 – the first year when American Defense came out – Remco wasn’t around. the first waves produced by a company called Agglo. As I stated it morphed through the years, the first releases were called National Defense. It contained eight figures: Bazooka, Machine Gunner, Marine, Pilot, Commando, Leader Enemy, Enemy Weapons officer, Enemy Spy Leader. Later Remco took control and changed the name to American Defense which is by far the most known title.  With the re-release of the original characters, there was a slight expansion and they had no problem mimicking other toy lines. The later runs contained two figures on cards, for a limited time. I think nowadays it’s harder to find these versions.

My family and I drove to North Carolina to be there for the ceremony where he passed his Sgt Major sword on to the next Sgt Major and then retired from Corps. As a gift to him I made a 3-pack of figures commemorating his time serving our country. I also made a picture book showing progress of the project and a shadow box to display them in.”

SPOTLIGHT: Project New Sculpt (by Oreobuilder and Bucky)

CustomsSpotlight1

For the last two weeks, the ambitious customizing team of Bucky and Oreobuilder, have wowed us with another massive customs project. This time, they went back to the New-Sculpt era of GI Joe and revisited some memorable characters… and some not so familiar. Follow the links below to see more of this massive undertaking!

From the desk of Oreobuilder:

“When Bucky approached me in September with the idea of doing a New Sculpt Event, I took to the idea immediately. It was an idea that I had been kicking around for some time. … I’m really happy with how this project came out. I was afraid that by juggling both Project New Sculpt and the 50th Anniversary Tribute, one or both projects would suffer. However, I found that by doing both simultaneously, I could switch projects when I was losing steam on one. … More importantly, working with a partner for the first time was a terrific experience. We could bounce ideas of each other, critique each other’s work and motivate the other to keep going. It was so much fun that we have already started brainstorming our next joint project!”

From Bucky’s workbench:

“This is the most amount of customs I have ever done at once, in this short of period of time. … My basement was a complete and utter disaster for most of the time, though I now have systems in place to keep it better organized… I literally would have dreams about the project and sometimes couldn’t sleep as I kept “kit bashing” in my head while trying to doze off. Some of my better ideas came up while trying to fall asleep. … I’m currently thinking of a way to top this.”
