The Syndicate‘s customizing genius, Apocalyptic Customs, shows us just how sick his creativity is with this brilliant entry into Mayhem‘s Desolation contest!!

“My tactics may be old fashioned, but there is a reason why they have lasted so long.” Mentis, a high admiral of the Vermillion forces, High Commander Augustus Mentis is one of the oldest if not the oldest of the Vermillion High Command. This is due to his obsession with seeing the wars he is involved in to the bitter end. Having being in various conflicts spanning hundreds of years all over the galaxy. He appears slightly unhinged and has very unorthodox and old fashioned tactics but despite this his forces have gained many victories due to them. His fellow generals have a begrudging respect for him because of this. His brain was transferred into a robotic power suit nobody is exactly sure when, where or how this happened, but it is known that this is what has given him his longevity and success on the battle field due to its various weapons, abilities and great mind. Robotic suit gives him increased strength and durability. It also has inbuilt communication, sensory and weaponry systems. Primary weapons are a Gatling gun and flamethrower.

I recently received a few 30th Ann. Crimson HISS tanks and thought I could do some repaints. Two of the repaints were for Jungle Camo. The base of the tank was spray painted with OG Green and the camo was hand painted.

For my custom, I decided I would skip the hypno-shield and give him a Crystal Ball (on a staff)
He is reputed to be the love child of a Romanian man with psychic powers and an American woman from Bangor, Maine. The man was said to be the seventh son of his family and when Crystal Ball was born to the woman, he was the seventh son she bore in her lifetime. Coincidence or bizarre fate?
Trivia:
- Crystal Ball is almost universally considered the most disliked figure. Fans hate this guy.
- Was the “pegwarmer” of the 1987 assortment, to the extent that he was still on some store shelves as late as1990.
- Developed at the suggestion of Stephen King’s son, who was a G.I. Joe fan and wanted a magician on the team. Depending on how the story is told, either King or his son, Owen, created Crystal Ball and wrote the filecard.
His facial features and hair vaguely resemble horror actor Vincent Price.- Crystal Ball’s biographical information is a parody of Owen King’s own history.
- Working names for the character included Trance-Master, Prof. Id, Mesmeron and The Gazer.
- Before the figure was released as “Crystal Ball,” there was another filecard for the character.
